Investigating the problem
Model prototype is built with spreadsheets using DEMATEL and AHP methods – structural modelling techniques that identify interdependences among the factors and elements with contextual relationships. Goal of the model is to convert input data sets into a readable result. Model was introduced as the master thesis project at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. Slides of the final presentation can be accessed here.
The steps of the proposed model development, together with explanation of multi-criteria decision-making techniques used in the model, follow:
Step 1: Identify client requirements based on the live data from the company clients and experts.
Step 2: Group client requirements by categories according per requirement type and description.
Step 3: Define client limitation group, depending on the different project types and clients.
Step 4: Determine end-factor list, in which Drupal and WordPress can be compared between each other.
Step 5: Construct structure of groups and sub-factors and collect expert evaluation of the pairwise comparisons using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process)
Step 6: Define the global weights and overall importance of each group in the decision-making process.
Step 7: Mapping of inter-dependences between end factors and client requirements and limitations by DEMATEL method (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory), consulting the experts from the company.
Step 8: WordPress and Drupal competitive results of performance in different categories of end factors, compared between each other. These results are mostly based on the current research in content management system area and internet data. Data should not be older than three years.
Step 9: Analyze results, generate solution and declare most influencing factors and importance of them connected to client requirements.
Step 10: Test the model with two different types of projects to determine its validity
Creating project requirements list through communication with the client.
Applying DEMATEL method to create connections between requirements and end factors.
Defining hierarchy structure with AHP, defining importance of each end factor group.
Comparative weights between Drupal and WordPress are created based on the academic and internet research.
Model calculations are creating the result of the decision-making process.
